If you're not standing in front of your article on a green screen, did you even publish?
The modern publishing dance now has more steps than ever.
Standing in front of a green screen pointing at your article on TikTok is the new snappy-comment-then-post-tweet.
I'm sorry to break it to you this way, but if you're still picturing yourself as some kind of modern day Carrie Bradshaw typing out words on your Powerbook G3 only to hit publish and let the world know with a tweet? Those days are over.
You might mistake me as resenting the pointing-at-article-on-green-screen step of the process, but I don't even mind that. While the format is a bit lacking in imagination, it gets an idea across to an audience that might not have otherwise seen it.
Short form video also has the potential to bring more authenticity to writing. Yes you can write some junk on a page, but will you also stand in front of a green screen to back it up?
The real challenge for publishing right now is the splintering of Twitter audiences into Mastodon, Bluesky, Threads and more. And the lack of tools to manage what has become pretty unweildy.
